Usually weighing less than ten pounds, toy dogs are s maller
than small dogs. These dogs are often bred to be companions and burglar
alarms rather than as hounds or hunters. The Teacup Yorkshire terrier,
which is also known as the Teacup Yorkie, is considered as a toy dog. So
are the Shih Tzu, the Chihuahua, the Pomeranians or Poms as they are
commonly called, the Toy Poodle, the Pug, the Maltese, the Miniature
Pinscher, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and the Papillon. Not
only do these toy dogs score points for cuteness, they also score high
as house pets, traveling companions, and intruder alarms. Being
diminutive in size, they adapt well to small quarters and limited
surroundings as they don’t need that much space to run around and play.
They are also distrustful of strangers; their excessive barking can wake
the entire house; thus, they make great burglar alarms. And they make
very good traveling companions; their mere presence has been known to
provide comfort to many a lonely traveler. |
